The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) and the Region 11 Comprehensive Center (R11CC) have partnered to improve K–3 reading for struggling readers by increasing the effectiveness of Tier 1 instruction so that all students gain foundational reading skills. Two districts (Fremont County School District (FCSD) #6 and FCSD #25) and schools (Wind River Elementary School and Willow Creek Elementary School) have participated in the on-site University of Wyoming Literacy Research Center Clinic (UW LRCC) needs assessment process. Both schools have received a Needs Assessment Summary Report from the UW LRCC. UW LRCC and R11CC staff will meet with both schools to select an improvement goal area to begin developing customized professional development plans. A third district, FCSD #38, and school, Arapahoe Elementary School, have asked to participate in the project. The UW LRCC and R11CC staff conducted the Arapahoe Elementary School on-site needs assessment on September 9, 2021. The elementary school staff will receive a draft Needs Assessment Summary Report by the end of September 2021.
